The starter’s pistol is set to be fired as runners and riders from Carole Nash prepare to make a dash for cash in aid of the Salford based charity, the Brain & Spinal Injuries Centre.
Under the banner of Team Carole Nash kind-hearted staff of the Altrincham company are to compete in various events, including the Great North Run and a Manchester to Blackpool bike ride which will also benefit The Christie hospital appeal. The charity initiative follows hot – or perhaps cold – on the heels of an Arctic quest completed by chief executive David Newman. His testing North Pole expedition has so far raised over £13,000 for BASIC and the Riders for Health charity.
David’s boardroom colleague Simon Jackson, the company’s commercial director, is now going to put his best foot forward in the slightly warmer climes of England’s North East. He’s now in training for September’s Great North Run, the world’s biggest half marathon which will see some 54,000 people tackling a 13 mile course between Newcastle and Gateshead.
Joked Simon: “Frankly this training lark is hard work and no doubt provides much amusement for the locals where I live in Lymm as they see me pounding the pavements, huffing and puffing. But at the end of the day I’m going to end up a bit fitter, a bit trimmer and feel a bit better about myself as I raise funds for such a good cause. I’ve seen for myself the fantastic work this charity does so I’m delighted that Team Carole Nash is so enthusiastically backing BASIC this year”.
This summer’s fundraising efforts follow a sponsored walk by Carole Nash staff, family and friends last August which raised over £1,200 for the same charity.
