180 horse power rocks Ascot
Royal Ascot racecourse was home to a very different kind of horsepower today as the historic venue was converted into a showcase for versatile motorbikes ahead of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour event in London this weekend.
The three British Motocross Freestylers, Chris Birch, Kris Brock and Jamie Squibb put their skills with two wheels on display at the noble racecourse, where four-legged horses usually gallop, to drum up interest ahead of the fifth stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour at London’s Battersea Power Station, a huge disused factory on the banks of the Thames.
The three local heroes took their bikes with more than 60 PS each to soar over a jump set up in front of the famous Ascot grandstand, showcasing their a rich variety of tricks.
“It’s truly special for me to be able to ride the bike on such a famous piece of land,” said England’s top FMX rider Chris Birch.
The truly great jumps won’t be seen until Thursday at Battersea Power Station when the world’s best riders start training. Records for both the course and venue are expected to be broken, with 30,000 people expected to pack the stands at Battersea, making the venue one of the biggest temporary stadiums in the UK.
