2,000 turn out for Beaulieu ride-in

Beaulieu’s first Motorcycle Ride-In Day in 2010, inviting bike owners to bring their bike down to Beaulieu, park up, and become part of a fantastic display in the grounds of the National Motor Museum, attracted over 2,000 biking enthusiasts and featured a public ride-in of over 1,400 bikes.

This brilliant opportunity to enjoy a great day out, meet other biking enthusiasts and see hundreds of motorbikes of all makes and models was voted one of ‘Britain’s Top Ten Biking Spots’ by the readers of Motorcycle News.

A warm and sunny day provided the perfect backdrop for this year’s event held on Sunday 26th June, with over 4,500 enthusiasts pouring into the National Motor Museum grounds.  The main feature of the day – the public Ride-In – had over 2,500 bikes taking part with riders, including several groups from biking clubs, coming from as far afield as Wales, the Midlands London, Kent and all along the south coast.

Beaulieu’s Events Manager Judith Maddox said: “We are delighted with the way this new event has grown in just two years.  We know that bikers like to have fun and show off their bikes and this event offers an opportunity to be part of the display and enjoy all of the Beaulieu attraction at the same time.”

There were a number of trade stands selling all manner of biking accessories, parts, gear and clothing with some real bargains to be had, as well as local dealerships including the new Harley Davidson outlet in Southampton, displaying their ranges of new bikes. A free Speedway Funfair ride also added to the fun atmosphere of the event.

In the grassed arena the crowds enjoyed a stunt display from the fearless Bolddog Lings Freestyle Team. As Honda’s official and the UK’s number one motorcycle display team, the Bolddog Lings team base their show around the world’s largest and most sophisticated mobile landing system. The show featured the UK’s top ranking freestyle motocross riders and incorporating the latest heart stopping tricks, usually only seen on TV.

Visitors were invited to vote for the People’s Choice Best Bike Award and this went to Martin Richards, from Hayward’s Heath, with his Yamaha V-Max bike.  Martin has spent ten years customising the bike which has a top speed of 280mph! He was presented with a £100 cash prize and Autoglym cleaning products by Bolddog Ling’s stunt rider Dan Whitby.

Next year’s Motorcycle Ride-In Day will take place on Sunday 24th June 2012.
