Anglesey Bike Show 2008 Cancelled
The Anglesey Bike Show, scheduled to take place this weekend, has been cancelled after North Wales Police raised fears about biker gang violence taking place on, or near the show site.
Although Insidebikes understands that no actual evidence has been made public, or put before the local council, the show organising commitee have been forced to cancel the event due to concerns raised - no public event can go ahead without Police, local council approval, or health ‘n’ safety assessments etc.
Chief Inspector Andy Williams told local media that the Police had ‘Fears of disorder at the event, due to concerns nationally about rival gangs.’ The Police apologised for the inconvenience caused, and praised most bikers attending the show as `law-abiding,’ but claimed their main concern was to prevent ‘crime and disorder.’
In that case, insidebikes would like to suggest that several hundred pubs, off licences and nightclubs are closed every Friday and Saturday night, as we have reliable information that violence will take place at these places - probably.
The Anglesey Motorcycle Show was cancelled with just under one week to go, and it is believed that the organisers stand to lose thousands - possibly even face personal bankruptcy - after Police effectively scrapped the event by expressing their fears.
The action comes after the Bulldog Bash went ahead, without any problems, despite initial fears that an incident might take place. Basically, it appeared that the local Warwickshire council didn’t share the Police fears on that occasion.
The Rock`n’ Blues, plus the Welsh Motorcycle Show at Builth Wells, were both cancelled on the same ‘gang war’ rumours earlier this year. The problem remains a serious one for any motorcycle club that wants to organise a show or rally which appeals to traditional ‘old school’ bikers, as potentially the event could be cancelled at the last minute on hearsay evidence.
