Aprilia have signalled their return to the World Superbikes stage this weekend with the launch of the all-new RSV4.

The all-new 1000cc monster will signal the Italian marque’s return to the World Superbike Championship, with Sterilgarda Ducati rider Max Biaggi confirmed as the lead rider for 2009.

Aprilia, who have a racing record which boasts 31 world championship titles, 250 MotoGP wins and 8 Superbike victories in the last sixteen years, the manufacturer has high hopes for the new RSV4, which will boast top of the class power in the race-ready version.

Developments in the bike’s electronics have lead to a new “ride-by-wire” engine management system which offers almost unlimited options for getting the best out of the 1000cc 65° V four power plant - built in-house by Aprilia.

Road users will also benefit from the influence of what Aprilia describe as “extraordinary technical know-how that Aprilia Racing has accumulated over two decades of success in MotoGP”, in a bike that “stands alone as an exclusive, genuine, and in many ways unique racing replica.”

Aerodynamics are another area where Aprilia believe they have the edge, with the 65° V-configuration keeping both engine width and weight to a minimum and aiding aerodynamics and manoeuvrability. The faring has even been through extensive wind-tunnel testing to ensure the best possible performance.

Engine performance is supplemented by components from the likes of Öhlins and Brembo

In terms of styling, the triple headlight cluster is sure to make the RSV4 instantly recognisable and the lightweight tail slopes upwards to emphasise the dynamic nature of bike’s dynamic nature.
