Banderas to invest in Moto2 team
Film star Antonio Banderas could be adding a touch of Hollywood to the MotoGP paddock after revealing that he will invest in a new team that will compete in the inaugural Moto2 Championship next season.
The Spanish actor, known for his roles in Shrek, Assassins, Evita and The Mask of Zorro, is reportedly a big motorsport fanatic and will invest in a team to compete on the first ever Moto2 championship, which will replace the 250cc series in 2010.
According to Reuters, the team is likely to be called either Banderas Racing Team or Antonio Banderas Team, with current 125cc rider Joan Olive tipped to ride for him.
“I have always been passionate about this world (motorcycling) and the opportunity came along and I didn’t hesitate.”
The revelation is further endorsement of the new championship concept, which has already seen a positive reception since its announcement earlier this year.
