BGBT winner prepares for French tour

Lifelong biker Nik Wallis is looking forward to his first overseas trip with MCi Tours, after winning second prize in the `Britain’s Got Biking Talent’ 2010 competition.

Nik Wallis, a teacher from Spilsbury School in Lincolnshire, recently won a free tour for two people, courtesy of MCi Tours, after his class restored a Maluguti MX moped. The classic 70s bike scooped second prize in the `Britain’s Got Biking Talent’ competition, held at Carole Nash Motorcycle Live 2010.

“I was chuffed to bits for the kids really,” commented Nik, “as they put so much hard work into making the bike look like new again. In fact they all agreed it was too nice to ride around the fields once it was finished. Our next project is rebuilding a CZ175. This kind of hands-on, skills-based learning is great for the kids – they are the bikers of the future.”

Nik also got the bike bug as a teenager, with his first machine being a Yamaha FS1E 50cc moped, the classic 70s `Sixteener Special.’  Although Nik has a modern bike, he is a big fan of classic two-strokes, with a Suzuki 250 X7, a BSA Tracker 125 and the `Fizzy’ taking pride of place in his collection.

Nik’s classic moped isn’t just for show either, as he enjoys plenty of ride-outs on the tiddler two-stroke. Nik completed a coast-to-coast charity ride in 2010, raising sponsorship for the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance Fund on his funky moped, covering the distance from St David’s Head in Wales to Lowestoft in Suffolk in one day!

“We hammered the mopeds to make it in under 24 hours, it was really good fun.” Says Nik, although he won’t be touring the French battlefields in 2011 on his Fizzy. “No, I reckon France and back is a bit too far on a moped, so I fancy riding there next May on my Tiger 955, bit more comfort and power.”

“Many congratulations to Nik and we’re looking forward to welcoming him along on the battlefields trip next year,” said MCi Tours boss Alastair McFarlane. “We are delighted that a keen biker, who is passing on bike-building skills to the younger generation, has won the prize.”
