Bike show raises £5k for charity
Carole Nash Motorcycle Live at The NEC, Birmingham drew to a close yesterday with a star-studded auction raising almost £5,000 Riders for Health. Racing stars turned out in force to support the charity, which works to supply reliable transport for health workers in rural communities of Africa.
Riders for Health ambassador and racing legend Randy Mamola was joined by Steve Parrish and James Whitham as they encouraged bids from bike fans, who had their eyes on the prizes and their wallets at the ready. World Superbike stars Troy Corser, Leon Haslam and Jonathan Rea and Moto2 contender Bradley Smith were also on hand to help.
Visitors were able to bid on various memorabilia signed by the world’s top racing stars, including a Jorge Lorenzo-signed replica X-Lite helmet and a printed canvas complete with the autographs of Valentino Rossi, Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Lorenzo. The auction raised almost £5,000 with the most money being generated from the sale of a Tissot watch signed by almost the entire MotoGP paddock.
“The auction worked really well for the charity and I want to thank everybody, from the racers to the fans, for their support,” said Riders for Health ambassador Randy Mamola. “This has been a perfect end to a great, great event.”
Sunday was the last in a nine-day spectacular that has seen thousands of visitors through the doors, despite the big freeze gripping the UK. From the 38 manufacturers displaying their shiny new machines to the interactive features giving visitors of all ages the chance to get on two wheels and the non-stop entertainment from racer interviews to quiz shows and games, Carole Nash Motorcycle Live 2010 has certainly been one to remember.
Managing Director of Event organisers MCI Exhibitions Finlay McAllan sums it up with one word: “Awesome, absolutely awesome. I am disappointed with the bad weather, but while I can fix a lot of things, I can’t fix that. The entire event has been a brilliant experience for us and I hope it has been a brilliant experience for everyone involved, exhibitors and visitors alike. We look to welcoming everybody back for the same again – and much more – next year.”
