Motorcycle theft is a sad fact of biking life, but there are devices out there to minimise the chances of your motorbike or scooter being stolen. UK based Bike Trac has announced that the first bike to be stolen with its device installed has been successfully recovered, proving its worth as a bike security device.

The Ducati Monster 696 was stolen from outside the home of Antony Rizzo in the South Harrow area of London on Saturday 1st May. Upon discovering his bike was missing the following morning, Mr. Rizzo used the online Bike Trac site to trace the location of his vehicle. The Ducati was subsequently quickly recovered by Mr. Rizzo, thankfully undamaged.

Bike Trac is a pioneering, Thatcham-approved tracking device, which has been designed exclusively for the two-wheel industry. The discreet on-board motion detection unit is suitable for all types of bikes – on road and off-road and monitors any unusual movements. The clever accessory can detect whether your bike is moving and alerts the rider within a couple of minutes by text or email.

Bike Trac’s internet portal is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which enables individuals to check the current location of their motorcycle. Using the online portal, motorcyclists can track journeys from the past three months and view aerial photography, details on mileage, speed and location from those trips for Bike Trac members to share with friends and family.

Mr. Rizzo who had the Bike Trac unit installed when he bought the bike in September 2009, commented, “If it hadn’t been for my Bike Trac device, I don’t know if I would ever have had my bike back. I’m a very happy customer! I would strongly encourage all other bike owners to protect their pride and joy using Bike Trac.”

The product, available in selected UK motorcycle dealerships now, costs £299 plus a small monthly subscription. The Bike Trac device is registered to the user and not the machine, so can be transferred from bike to bike, making it ideal for classic bike owners who may use a variety of machines for shows and rallies.
