Brookes looking for a win at Snetterton after test crash
Josh Brookes crashed out during testing yesterday at Darley Moor but has vowed to fight for a win at Snetterton next weekend.
The HM Plant Honda rider sustained no serious injury during his testing crash, where he high-sided whilst testing out a new engine specification which the team are hoping to run at Silverstone.
Brookes said: “I just had a big high-side and flew quite high in the air and came down quite heavily on the base of my back in almost a seated position and then I got slapped around a bit. To start with we thought I might have broken something, but since then I have had some x-rays and it is not showing any breaks.
He added: “The hand is starting to feel better and I can squeeze it again now, which I couldn’t do initially so that is a good sign. When I took the boot off to start with I had some real sharp pain in my foot but the x-rays show nothing is broken so maybe I just need to man up a bit! I just hurt all over right now and feel pretty rubbish but you have to expect that when you crash at that speed.”
The Aussie rider has the sole lead of the British Superbike Championship, putting the HM Plant Honda team at the top for the first time in almost three years.
Brookes took the lead after a third place finish at Knockhill where he suffered with a spinning tyre, but was satisfied with the position as rival Tommy Hill trailed back in eighth place, giving Brookes the opportunity to get rack up some championship points.
He said: “I am never happy with third, but a podium means that I now have the championship lead and that is what I am here for.”
Although Brookes has more points, he is still technically behind Hill, who has more podium credits than his Australian rival which will be equalised into points, three rounds from the end of the championship.
