Capirossi will write his name into the record books on Sunday.

Suzuki and Loris should, barring any disaster, be together next year.

Loris Capirossi will write his name into the record books this weekend as he makes his 277th MotoGP start.

The 35-year-old will this week become the world’s most experienced Grand Prix rider this weekend, taking the mantle away from fellow Italian Alex Barros but the Suzuki rider, who secured his first podium for the team at Brno two weeks ago, has no plans to end his run as talks over a new contract draw near to a conclusion.

“For sure when I complete this race I’ll have the record but I don’t really care about records,” Capirossi told a news conference on Thursday.

“For sure I’m not stopping at the moment, so maybe I can increase it a lot.

“Maybe I want to ride for nine or ten years more,” joked the Italian.

“I still enjoy riding the bike and I get good adrenaline. I really like it.”

Capirossi is also expected to pen a new contract with the Suzuki team for the 2009 season, with manager Paul Denning confident that he will keep both Capirossi and teammate Chris Vermeulen.

Denning told MotoGP.com: “Suzuki and Loris should, barring any disaster, be together next year. That´s pretty much everybody´s intention. We can´t make any official announcement until the paperwork is processed by Loris´ people and by Suzuki´s people, but as soon as that takes place we will make a formal statement.”

“We are still talking with Chris, although we haven´t come to an agreement yet,” he added. “We have further talks with his management this weekend regarding working together in the future. We´re very proud to have Chris riding for us, and would be happy to continue with him, but we´re still working on that at the moment.”
