Checa on pole at Nurburgring

Carlos Checa scored another Superpole win towards his World Superbike title campaign this afternoon, with a storming lap around the Nurburgring circuit.

A brand new fastest lap around the German circuit saw Checa steal pole position with a time of 1m54.144 seconds. Now armed with his fifth pole position of the 2011 season, Checa is eager for two more success stories in the double header tomorrow.

Joining Checa on the front row of the grid for the first of tomorrow’s races will be Eugene Laverty in second, whilst Max Biaggi will line up third. A strong ride enabled Marco Melandri to secure the fourth fastest time of the session, whilst Noriyuki Haga will start from fifth place.

Brit Tom Sykes set the sixth fastest time, ahead of fellow Brit Leon Haslam, as they strive to fight their way to the head of the field. With three remaining spaces within the top ten, Sylvain Guintoli, Jonathan Rea and Jakub Smrz fought it out for eighth, ninth and tenth, respectively.

Tomorrow’s two races will see out round ten of the 2011 season, as the series edges closer towards the season finale.
