Confirmed: Davide Brivio to quit Yamaha
After months of speculation and rumour, and on the eve of Valentino Rossi’s final race for Yamaha, it has finally been confirmed that Davide Brivio will be leaving Yamaha.
It was widely speculated that Rossi’s departure would devastate the Yamaha team and this was confirmed when it was announced that Rossi’s entire team, led by Jerry Burgess, were leaving. And now, as Rossi gears up for his final race, it has been confirmed that Davide Brivio, team manager of Rossi’s crew and a prominent figure at Yamaha, will also be leaving the team.
It is thought that the Italian, who is believed to have been influential in convincing Rossi to join the Yamaha team, will take on the role of personal manager to Rossi, after he steps down at Yamaha.
Massimo Meregalli, the current Yamaha World Superbike team manager, has been appointed as Team Director and will take up his new position on the 8th November, just in time for the post-season test at Valencia. Meregalli will work alongside Wilco Zeelenberg ‘to form an experienced and unified management team for 2011 and beyond’.
Meregalli will also be reunited with Ben Spies, who he managed in Yamaha’s Superbike team where Spies went on to win a record-breaking 14 races in 2009 and was the first ever rookie rider to take home the crown.
In turn, Meregalli will be replaced by Andrea Dosoli who ran the Forward Racing Moto2 team in 2010, and was previously the team manager for Marco Melandri in 2009.
