Corser aims for top 5

Troy Corser is determined to claim a top-five spot for BMW at the end of the World Superbike Season. The 2009 World Superbike Championship will see BMW make their debut in the competition, and therefore Corser’s aim to claim a top-five berth is an ambitious one.

36-year-old Corser moved to BMW in September after he competed in the 2008 season on a Yamaha and is set to lead BMW’s entry into Championship. Corser’s strength in the field, having been the youngest rider to win the world title in 1996 on a Ducati and his consistent success makes him an extremely positive asset for the BMW team.

Corser’s claims are a result of his performance during the test session at the Kyalami circuit in South Africa. Corser exceeded his own expectations in the test session as he finished 11th fastest, whilst teammate Ruben Xaus did not fall far behind as 13th fastest. The improvement of the BMW team is, as Corser claims a result of negating the use of electronic aids in order to get a good understanding of the bike. Corser expressed his satisfaction with the way that the team is improving:

“We’ve improved steadily and that’s all one can ask for realistically. The team are all working well together and the mechanics and technicians now have a lot of data and info to think about for the next test in January.”
