Corser will ride the new S1000RR next season.
Troy Corser has been confirmed as the second rider for the new BMW World Superbikes team to form what the manufacturer is calling “the dream team”.
The Australian will leave Yamaha at the end of the season to partner Sterilgarda Ducati rider Ruben Xaus at the all-new BMW outfit for 2009 in what will be the German marque’s first foray into World Superbike competition.
Corser, who has 33 WSB wins to his name despite failing to record a win in his two-year stint with Yamaha and holds an all time record of 41 pole positions from his 301 starts, is a significant coup for BMW who have signalled their ambitions for the new S1000RR
BMW executive vice-president of development and model lines, Peter Mueller announced the signing of the 1996 and 2005 champion, claiming that the team will boast the best possible line-up for 2009.
“With Troy and Ruben, I feel confident we will have the best riders possible for our start in the World Superbike Championship,” he said.
“Troy has unrivalled experience in the series and that, together with Ruben’s exuberance, is our ‘dream team’ and the combination we wanted, right from the start of this project. I feel sure that their knowledge of the series will definitely help us become competitive very quickly.
“I am delighted that Troy is joining our team,” added Berti Hauser, director of BMW Motorrad Motorsport, “and that our jigsaw is now complete. He was in our minds from the start and I am very happy, because I believe he and Ruben are the best combination of riders for our new challenge.
“Troy has told me that he is excited about helping us develop the bike and being part of the project from the start. He also said that he would like to be the first rider in WSBK history to win the title with three different manufacturers, and that he is physically and mentally ready make that his target.”
