Dakar Update; French rider dead
The latest from the Dakar Rally is that Pascal Tery, aged 49, was found dead some 15 metres from his bike, after being reported missing on stage 2 of the event. He had food and water with him, and had removed his helmet, but was found dead in undergrowth in the early hours of Wednesday morning, local time.
Pascal Terry had been competing in his very first Dakar rally, and insidebikes extends its condolences to his friends and family.
Meanwhile rally leader Marc Coma suffered a puncture yesterday which cut his overall lead back to just 27 minutes, with US racer Jonah Street in second place.
Honda 450 rider Mick Extance has described this year’s Dakar as the toughest ever, Mick should know he has finished in several of the African events. Mick told his Honda team yesterday;
“Compared to my first Dakar, I’ve learned so much. Sometimes I put too much pressure on myself. Days like today and yesterday, when the stages are long and tough, I like the most. But I am still creeping up on the leaderboard, towards my goal!”
Mick is usually top-finishing British rider in the Dakar and is currently on target to match, or just beat his best ever placing of 26th overall.
