David in race to check in at North Pole

The CEO of Carole Nash, Britain’s favourite bike insurance broker, is breaking the boundaries of technology by aiming to become the first person to ‘check in’ at the North Pole.

It’s to be a polar expedition like no other, where the mobile game Foursquare, wholly reliant on a smart phone’s GPS signal, goes way beyond simply identifying your location in a local coffee shop.

Foursquare is a mobile application that allows users to ‘check in’ at various locations around the world, allowing them to tell friends which bar or coffee shop they are in, arrange gatherings at a particular location or to simply log their favourite locations via GPS. The service has seen huge growth in 2010, growing faster than popular services such as Twitter and Facebook.

David, who is undertaking a charity expedition in the Arctic to raise money for biking charities Riders for Health and BASIC, aims to become the first ever person to check in at the true North Pole and his challenge has been made all the more exciting by the emergence of Parker Liautaud, a 15-year-old Eton graduate who will be racing David to make the all important check in at 90 degrees and pick up the coveted North Pole badge.

“To be able to check in at the North Pole with Foursquare would really add an element of fun and I will give it my very best shot to win Foursquare’s North Pole badge,” said David. “This is a great personal challenge for me but more importantly let’s not forget this is also in aid of two fantastic causes – Riders For Health and BASIC – which are close to our hearts and those of our customers.”

Will David make it to the North Pole and be the first person to relay his coordinates via GPS? Follow his journey at http://northpole.carolenash.com/ and watch out for the first ever check in with Foursquare at the North Pole.
