DJ Mills takes up emission free riding
Radio One DJ Scott Mills is the latest celebrity to get on two wheels after he took delivery of a new e-motive E3 electric scooter.
Mills, who hosts the drive time show on Radio One, picked up the new zero-emission electric scooter as he looks to find a better way of making it through London’s congested streets.
The e-motive E3, one of only a handful of electric scooters widely available to purchase in the UK, uses the latest battery technology, allowing riders to cover 70 miles on a single charge and reach speeds of up to 55mph.
And Mills is also keen to save money on his daily commute to the studio, taking advantage of an exemption from London’s £8 per day congestion charge and free parking bays in certain areas of the capital.
“I recently gave up my car as I found owning one in London was completely pointless,” claimed Mills. “I was always getting parking tickets and was paying so much to keep something that just sat there unused most of the time.
“But recently a few of my friends got scooters and they were always telling me how great they were and how they no longer had to waste time sat in traffic and so I started to look around.
Scott also claimed that the e-motive represents a big step up from the scooters that he remembered riding as a 16-year-old.
“When I first started out I was doing shows in the early hours of the morning and my mum and dad got fed up of having to drop me off and pick me up in the middle of the night so I got myself a scooter,” he added.
“It was a really noisy and dirty old thing but I used to love it and it was brilliant fun to ride.
“But my E3 is even better to ride and much more fun. And because it’s practically silent you really turn people’s heads as you ride past!”
