It’s now over halfway through Carole Nash Motorcycle Live at The NEC, Birmingham and the entertainment just keeps on coming. BMW World Superbike rider Leon Haslam made a special appearance at yesterday’s event, meeting and greeting fans and taking part in the fun and games on the Black Horse Stage in the Arai Entertainment Zone.
As the crowds of visitors enjoy the exhibitor displays and interactive features on offer at the event, it represents the culmination of a huge amount hard work and organisation. A core team of four people work over 11 months to fill the five halls of the NEC, with 233 stands manned by over 4,000 people.
This year’s event offers six different opportunities to ride motorcycles, inside, outside, on road and off road. The industry-backed Get On campaign will see over 1,000 first-time riders experience a free taster session, while My First Honda Licence will give over 1,000 children the chance to have their first go on two-wheels.
The TM+X and DBR Off-Road Zone – which includes the Suzuki Off-Road Experience for kids and the Yamaha Off-Road Experience for adults – has been created using over 2,200 tonnes of dirt, allowing almost 1,000 people old and young will experience their first off-road ride. The entire exhibition is covered by 40 miles of carpet laid end-to-end and takes a full week to build and construct yet only 16 hours to completely remove.
At the end of it all Managing Director of event organisers MCI Exhibitions Finlay McAllan is already thinking of next year: “This year’s event is bigger and better than ever and so much hard work has gone into it. When we get positive feedback from the visitors as we have been doing this week it’s all worth it and it makes us look forward to getting started on next year as soon as we can!”
Carole Nash Motorcycle Live runs until 5 December 2010. Tickets are £17 for adults, £10 for seniors, £5 for children aged 11-16 and kids under 10 go free. All riding experiences are free. The Ramp’d Up Freestyle Motocross Arena is £5 per adult and £2.50 for children 5-16.
