Gow Gets On for Motorcycle Week

Television presenter Jennie Gow, who became the new face of BBC’s MotoGP coverage this season, has become the latest celebrity to take to life on two wheels. To mark this year’s National Motorcycle Week (NMW), which runs until Saturday, Gow has completed her CBT with the support of the Get On campaign which allows anyone to try riding a motorbike or scooter for free via www.geton.co.uk.

Despite being synonymous with motorbikes – having been a presenter of Speedway and Motocross for Channel 4, Sky Sports, Men and Motors and Motors TV before re-joining the BBC – Jennie’s busy schedule has meant she has never had time to learn to ride a motorbike herself. Having teamed up with the Get On campaign however, Gow is now well on her way to becoming a fully fledged biker.

The former ITV continuity announcer, who introduced programmes such as I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!, The X Factor and Coronation Street, follows in the footsteps of Taio Cruz and Simon Webbe as other famous faces to have given their support to Get On.

In addition to providing anyone aged 16 or over with the opportunity to have a free one hour taster session on a motorbike or scooter, the website www.geton.co.uk also provides a one-stop shop for information on how to get into, or back into, biking as well as an interactive community for newcomers to the world of two wheels .

Jennie, who will present this weekend’s US round of MotoGP from the legendary Laguna Seca circuit said, “There’s nothing that quite beats the feeling of being on a bike. Having watched MotoGP, Speedway and Motocross from up close, I‘ve always been aware of how thrilling it appears. Now I’m up and running on two wheels I know just how exciting being in the saddle really is, even if I am going a lot more slowly than the GP guys!”

As well as encouraging new riders, NMW also encourages existing and lapsed bikers to get out and about on their bikes and encourage their friends to give biking a go. As an added incentive during July, Get On is running a prize promotion which will give any biker who introduces a friend at a Get On dealer the chance to win a huge range of prizes including biking holidays, Weise kit, Arai helmets and Pirelli tyres. Non-bikers won’t miss out either as they will be entered into the draw for iPads, iPod nanos and digital cameras. The competition can be entered at one of 450 participating Get On dealers across the country which can be located on the website www.geton.co.uk

Ride to Work Day (21 July) is also an integral part of the NMW. The initiative is geared to promote the many aim is to promote the many practical benefits of riding a bike or scooter, from helping to reduce congestion and journey times to reducing pollution and the cost of commuting.

Those looking to see what savings can be made by taking to life on two wheels, can do so by using the ingenious travel savings calculator on www.geton.co.uk. Users can type in their normal travel details and the calculator will tell you the savings you can make on fuel, insurance, tax and parking.

Anyone can get involved in National Motorcycle Week and people who are interested in running their own events can think about planning a bikers’ BBQ, a local charity fundraiser, getting some extra training or going on a group ride out to celebrate all that is positive about life on two wheels.
