Harley unveil Dyna Switchback
Harley-Davidson has unveiled its first new 2012 model, the FLD Dyna Switchback.
The bike uses same idea as the Dyna Convertible of a quickly detachable screen and panniers for alternating between touring duties and cruising around locally. Like all Dyna models and many others for 2012 the bike is also fitted with Harley’s 1690cc Twin Cam 103 engine, in most cases replacing the old 1574cc Twin Cam 96.
Other distinctive features on the Switchback include the five-spoke aluminium wheels, chrome headlamp and fork nacelle. No tools are needed to remove or replace the screen and panniers. Some effort has gone into minimising the bike’s weight, which at a still-hefty 330kg (727lb) wet is 43kg (94lb) lighter than a Harley Road King.
Harley says high quality suspension components have been used, including the twin rear gas shocks, and the bike’s geometry is designed for crisp and responsive handling. No horsepower figure is given but Harley claims 93lb.ft of torque at 3,500rpm. ABS is fitted as standard, and the fuel tank capacity is 3.9 gallons (17.8 litres), which will limit range to around 170 miles.
No price or on sale date for the UK has been announced yet.
