Harley’s CVO special Ultra Glide

Harley-Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) take standard motorcycles in the range and tweak their styling, accessory packages and performance. The new 2010 CVO Ultra Classic, Electra Glide is Harley’s top-of-the-range touring model, offering classic looks and luxury rider comfort, with an all-black colour scheme.

There are 999 special edition CVO Ultra Glides, and each has a variety of black painted components, like the smoked windshield, engine cases, gauges, mirrors – in fact there are 185 parts painted black.

You also get a Zumo GPS Navigator on the CVO edition Glide, plus an integrated lock system which makes the bike harder to steal. Good news for any Harley owner, as these bikes are targeted by professional thieves because of their high value, so anything that reduces your insurance premium has to be worth a look.

The Ultra Glide has the twin cam 110 cubic inch engine and a 6-speed transmission. It isn’t a fast bike, but it cruises nicely all day long at 70mph, loaded up with luggage, which is exactly what you want from this type of touring class machine. It’s an easy riding motorcycle, which offers grunty, if modest performance.

The Ultra Glide might look old fashioned, but it has modern touches like multi-point fuel injection, anti-lock braking system (ABS),and an excellent Harman-Kardon audio system. It also features a waterproof cover on the dashboard for the CD and radio unit.

The CVO Ultra has an updated chassis, introduced by Harley-Davidson in 2009, based on a single-spar, rigid backbone frame and new swingarm. As the older Ultra Glide model was slightly prone to weaving a little bit on corners, insidebikes reckons that sounds like good news.
