Laverty considers move to MotoGP
Eugene Laverty has said he will consider moving up to MotoGP in 2012, but only if he gets offered the right deal.
Yamaha have already confirmed that they won’t be racing next season, and the Northern Irish rider says that now could be the time to consider a move up to MotoGP, and has already been linked to the 2012 Tech 3 Yamaha team, with Colin Edwards confirmed to leave after this season.
He’s not the only one to be linked to the Tech 3 ride though, with Bradley Smith also rumoured to have been offered a place, however both riders have said they have yet to agree a final deal.
Laverty had planned to stay in WSB, gaining as much experience as possible, but after Yamaha’s withdrawal he is considering a move. However, he is wary of going back to the MotoGP paddock, after his previous experience left him jaded.
He said: “I’ve been in the MotoGP paddock before and I’m in no rush to go back unless the deal is right,”
“Last time I was there I got f***ed over so badly. The WSB paddock is a much more friendly place. There is a better system here where they believe in the rider a lot more. In MotoGP you’re seen as an idiot until you prove otherwise.
“My aim was to do what Ben Spies did in 2009 in WSB which meant he was able to go into MotoGP on his own terms.
“Going with people you know is particularly important because your confidence can be knocked so easily in GP. The only other team I am considering is Suzuki. I have a good relationship with those guys.”
