London parking row turns ugly

The BMF has forced a Westminster Councillor to retract a remark that branded motorcycle parking bay protestors `rogues,’ as the battle over parking fees for bikes in London intensifies.

The councillor issued a press release condemning the actions of `rogue motorcycle protestors,’ and accused them of breaking the law during a protest recently in London. In turn the BMF accused the council of scare tactics in the run-up to another parking bay protest ride, scheduled for 31st March 2009.

Westminster council say the protest rides damage the local economy, but the BMF counter that a legal protest is part of a democratic society, and the only way that local councils in London can understand the depth of feeling involved, as bikers look set to lose free parking bays in the capital, and possibly other UK cities.
