Lorenzo secures fifth consecutive pole

Jorge Lorenzo stormed to pole position ahead of tomorrow’s MotoGP outing from Laguna Seca, completing his run of pole positions from the last five races.

Now wth his fifth consecutive pole position behind him, the young Spaniard wil be aiming to transfer it into another win, to extend his strangehold on the championship standings.

A fierce battle throughout the session saw Lorenzo narrowly grasp top spot from a charging Casey Stoner, with the Ducati rider eager to take his second pole of the season. After swapping between the two for the duration of the session, it was Lorenzo who stole the prominent spot on his final lap, leaving Stoner to line up second. Andrea Dovizioso will complete the front row of the grid in third, seizing his first front row start in MotoGP.

Dovizioso’s Repsol Honda teammate, Dani Pedrosa, set the fourth fastest time, leaving him to head up to second row of the grid, just ahead of local hero Ben Spies. American Spies will be hoping to perform well in front of his home crowd, with a second row start giving him a good advantage. In his second race since returning from a broken leg, Valentino Rossi will start from sixth place, completing the second row.

Spies’ fellow American’s Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards have secured a seventh and eighth place start, respectively. Meanwhile Marco SImoncelli and Hector Barbera round out the top ten, with Marco Melandri just missing out in eleventh.

Loris Capirossi and Aleix Espargaro will start tomorrow’s race from twelfth and thirteenth, with Alvaro Bautista fourteenth. After suffering a crash at the top of the infamous Corkscrew corner, Mika Kallio will line up fifteenth, just ahead of Alex De Angelis and Roger Lee Hayden.
