Lorenzo Transfer Rumours Played Down
Speculation surrounding a transfer for Jorge Lorenzo to Ducati has been played down by a source close to the Spanish rider.
Although reports have speculated that a deal between Lorenzo and Ducati is all but signed, apparently the rider is still thinking about his future in MotoGP. The source said:
“We are still thinking, it is not true that we are closer to Ducati…..It is not an easy decision!”
The source explained that more clarity surrounding a potential move should happen around the forthcoming Indianapolis round next week, at some point between August 28th and 30th.
Lorenzo’s two year contract with Yamaha expires at the end of the season so suggestions of where Lorenzo will go next have included a potential move to Honda and more recently, Ducati. Negotiations between Lorenzo and his current team, Yamaha have been notably strained as it has been documented that Lorenzo wants parity between his contract and that of his teammate and current world-leader, Valentino Rossi. However, Lorenzo has continually confirmed that he is happy at Yamaha, claiming that the team has a ‘real family atmosphere and a very competitive bike’.
Questioning whether Yamaha really want him, Lorenzo added:
“Yamaha has a very good situation because normally they have two riders on the podium at every race, but they also have to support two riders at the same level. This is not easy. We will see if, for Yamaha, it is enough to have one competitive rider or if they want to prepare for the future.”
With rumours circulating about a possible deal, it seems that the constant debate about where Lorenzo will go will continue until confirmation of a move is announced. Having taken three wins and 14 podium finishes with Fiat Yamaha, they’ll be unlikely to give him up without a fight.
