Manchester Show 2010

- The Manchester Motorcycle Show has been cancelled. An announcement regarding a rearranged show will be made in due course. Form more information, click here

The first show of 2010 is the Manchester Motorcycle event, held at the old G-MEX site, now called Manchester Central, reports Alastair Walker.

This year the big news is the return of the outdoor stunt activity, as well as the indoor action. Outdoor stunts are liable to be affected by the weather of course, but if conditions are OK, then the Vertical Trix team will be popping wheelies, performing burn-outs and other assorted tyre-smoking madness. Inside, you can watch off-road ace Steve Colley doing amazing things on his trials machine, including hopping across obstacles without a front wheel on the bike.

The Globeriders are also at the show. This will be Heidi and Mikko’s last year of stunt riding, so if you’ve never seen two people criss-crossing each other at 60mph, upside down inside a steel cage, then it is your last chance.

The new 2010 models will be on show of course and those who fancy taking up motorcycling should get their name on the list at Honda UK’s `My First Licence’ feature. You can get a chance to try a small motorcycle, with helmet and safety riding kit provided, plus tuition from trained instructors. Once you twist a throttle and lean a bike over to corner, you will love it – it’s pure freedom. Honda should also have the new VFR1200 on display too, which is their much awaited sports-touring flagship.

Meanwhile local BMW dealer Williams are promising a futuristic theme to their stand, plus the debut of the S1000RR sportbike, which has 193bhp and is based on the WSB race machine. But advanced technology like Dynamic Traction Control and ABS braking should help to make this 180mph sportbike as easy to ride as a typical 600cc sportbike. The every popular R1200GS also has some updates for 2010.

Custom bikes, classics, scooters and humble commuter motorbikes will also be at Manchester Central. The chops, bobbers and restored classics are always impressive, with some real innovative engineering on show year after year. Britain has some amazing motorcycle constructing talent out there, so have a good look at the show.

If you’re after some new bike kit, spares or accessories, then the show always offers some top value winter bargains. Motorcycle parking is free, Manchester Central is easy to find by Metrolink of course. The organisers say that there are 100 trade stands this year, admission is £12 on the day for adults, £6 for children and seniors and opening hours are 10am – 5pm Saturday and Sunday.
