Manx residents to welcome TT fans

Residents in the Isle of Man are being encouraged to sign up to a government scheme to allow bike racing fans to stay in their homes during the Isle of Man TT.

Homeowners on the island are being urged to sign up to the Homestay scheme, which allows residents to earn up to £1,500 tax free for allowing tourists to stay in their home during whilst staying on the island.

Manx tourism officials claim that the scheme, which has been designed to ease the pressure on the island’s limited hotel room supply and provide more affordable accommodation for visitors, has already proved a success with a 4.3% increase in visitor numbers following its introduction last year.

“This is a great opportunity for us to encourage the many visitors who wish to visit our beautiful island for the TT and enjoy the unique and exciting atmosphere of this ever popular festival,” said Tourism Minister Martyn Quayle.

“Following the success of 2009, when the island enjoyed a 4.3% increase in visitor numbers, the continuing interest in the island as a holiday destination is most welcome.

“The provision of quality Homestay accommodation would ensure that we are in the best position to meet the requirements of our visitors and the department would welcome new applications.”
