MCN London Show Highlights

There’s lots to see at the Carole Nash sponsored, MCN London Motorcycle Show this weekend.

New bikes which are worth checking out `in the metal’ include the sleek Triumph 675 Daytona, the awesome Ducati Streetfighter prototype, and some funky looking Victory machines. Talking to insidebikes, Mike from Victory UK hinted that the brand would be working with a `a major name in the UK custom scene, to produce some limited edition customised Victory bikes later in 2009.’

Harley-Davidson had their new Sportster 883 Iron on show, but the Rocker C still remains the absolute biz for us at insidebikes - proper Hog. Meanwhile, those with a taste for the exotic could feast their eyes on the Bimota Tesi, or SB5/SB7 models. The Bimota SB7R is arguably the Brough-Superior of the modern age, with a Ducati motor powering that exquisite chassis - 30K price tag however. Ouch.

The new Kawasaki ZX6R can be won at the show. The powerful sportbike is being entered as top prize in an MCN draw, with all entries accepted at the show. You get a personalised number plate from the DVLA as part of the prize too. Any chance of KWAK ER1?

Kit bargains to be had include half price riding boots and gloves on the Rawland stand, new LED strip lighting kits for sportbikes on the Powerbronze stand, from just £10 for a basic headlight reflector kit. We also saw the new Rescue Tape launched - this magic stuff tapes up almost anything, is is heat and water resistant, making it ideal for bikers’ tool boxes.

Cool classic bikes on show too; you can vote on your favourite restoration at the show with Classic Bike magazine. Our fave is the T150 Trident flat-tracker.

We love a cool cafe racer here at insidebikes, like the Saxon-Rickman in the Classic Bike competition, or the great modern retro twin from Hogbitz, featuring a H-D V-twin engine in a lean, mean chassis, twin front discs, belt drive, spoked alloy wheels etc. This black beauty was on the North Weald racing club stand and yours from around eight grand, hand-built too.

Race stars like Leon Haslam, Shakey Byrne and Cal Crutchlow are at the show over the weekend, and Russ from Hollyoaks is one of the judges in the MCN Babe competition as well - tough job, but someone has to do it…

Plus you can get a quote on top value bike, car or travel insurance at Carole Nash and see the Live Action Arena, for free. Freestyle riders in mid-air, Terry Grant spinning his mad bike-engined cars and more. It’s all at the ExCel Arena, London Docklands.
