McQueen bike to go under hammer

Steve McQueen’s 1971 Husqvarna 400 motorcycle will go under the hammer next month, along with a huge collection of McQueen collections and memorabilia.

The bike, along with the actor’s collection of racing trophies, will go up for sale in in Carmel, California, on May 14th as part of a 169 lot auction.

But it is lot 101, a 1971 Husqvarna 400 Cross owned by the “King of Cool”, that is expected to be the main attraction, with estimates expecting the bike to fetch $70,000 (£43,790).

Other items up for auction include an ex-Steve McQueen racing trunk, expected to fetch as much as $16,000 (£9,800) and a large display of nineteen Steve McQueen photographs from Ascot Park, California, 1969, with a guide price of $8,000 – $10,000.

A total of 15 race trophies, all awarded to the star of The Great Escape, will also go under the hammer, with a collective guide price of $26,600 (£16,200).

Bonhams has continuously been the representative for Steve McQueen-related items sold at auction, beginning with the widely publicized and record-breaking 2006 “Steve McQueen Sale” in Los Angeles.
