Melandri determined to race at Catalunya MotoGP

Despite an injury to his shoulder that forced him to miss last Saturday’s Grand Prix, Marco Melandri has said he is determined that he will race in this weekend’s Catalunya MotoGP.

Melandri has had a run of bad luck recently, missing Assen after a fall in practice and injuring his shoulder and the week before that having crashed out at Silverstone in the British Grand Prix.

The Gresini Honda MotoGP rider said: “I’m going with the clear objective of putting the disappointments of Assen and Silverstone behind me,”

He added: “I’ll see how I feel after such a crash but my determination to race is huge.”

This weekend’s race in Barcelona could be inspirational for the 2005 world championship runner-up, since he won his first ever premier podium at the track in 2004.

The Italian rider said: “I hope I am fit and able to continue the recent good work we’ve been doing so that we can have more to be pleased with by the end of the weekend,”

Melandri, who is currently 11th in this season’s championship, had been having a good season previous to his last two races, having his best finish at Mugello in the race before Silverstone.

He went on: “I have had a lot of treatment on the shoulder since Saturday and even though I still won’t be at peak physical fitness, I am determined to get back out on track.”
