Melandri earns first WSB Superpole

Marco Melandri roared to his first World Superbike Championship Superpole victory this afternoon, after taking pole position for tomorrow’s duet of races from Aragon in Spain.

With a fastest time of 1m57.634 seconds Melandri controlled the pace at the end of the action, whilst his chief rival Max Biaggi will line up second on the grid. Leon Camier put in a strong performance to record the third fastest time by the end of the session, with championship leader Carlos Checa in fourth.

Brit Tom Sykes also put in a good showing to secure a fifth place starting position, ahead of Eugene Laverty and Joan Lascorz. Ayrton Badovini will start eighth on the grid for the first of tomorrow’s two races, with Noriyuki Haga and Sylvain Guintoli set the round out the top ten.
