Mission R takes stand in Long Beach
The Mission R, the latest electric superbike from Mission Motorcycles, took to the stand at the International Motorcycle Show in Long Beach yesterday to rave reviews from show goers.
Boasting a 100-kilowatt AC induction motor, that takes the Mission R to a top speed of around 160mph, the bike represents the latest development from the San Francisco manufacturer that has already enjoyed success with its previous model, the Mission One.
In 2009, the Mission One electric race bike once claimed the land-speed record for an electric motorcycle, clocking 150.059 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Being an electric bike, the Mission R has just one moving part and only one gear, with the motor producing 115 ft. lbs. of torque and 141bhp.
Power is managed by the MissionEVT 100kW motor controller, with customizable regenerative braking maps, throttle maps and more. All vehicle and ride data is accessible via WiFi or 3G connections.
“We are excited to announce the Mission R, our compact and powerful factory electric racebike,” founder Edward West said in a statement. “This bike represents the culmination of all the company’s learning in both electric powertrains and motorcycle engineering.”
The bike also features components from brands that will be familiar to any biker, with adjustable front and rear suspension from Ohlins, 17-inch wheels from Marchesinis and brakes from Brembo.
Mission has also confirmed that it will race its new R in the 2011 TTXGP electric motorcycle racing series.
