MV Agusta to return to IOM TT

MV Agusta will return to the Isle of Man TT races in 2012, ending a five-year absence from the historic road races.

The iconic Italian brand will race under the World Performance Racing banner, using the new F3 and F4 machines at the TT next year, with full factory backing.

It will be the first time that MV Agusta motorcycles have graced the TT course since 2007, when the late Martin Finnegan finished fourth in the Superstock TT race with a lap of 125.685mph.

The brand boasts a strong history in the TT, having won 34 races and taking 61 podiums between 1952 and 1972, with Italian legend Giacomo Agostini winning ten of those titles. Other major names to have ridden MV Agusta bikes on the Isle of Man include John Surtees (6 wins), Carlo Ubbiali (5 wins), Mike Hailwood (4 wins) and Tarquinio Provini (3 wins).

“World Performance Racing represents a passion for motorcycle racing and the desire to bring MV Agusta, the iconic motorcycle brand with a unique heritage, to the celebrated Isle of Man TT races in 2012,” said WPR manager Neil Haslam. “We aim to restore MV Agusta back to winning ways and ensure that the 2012 TT will be another chapter in this great Italian’s brand’s history.”
