Pedrosa on top at Magny Cours

Dani Pedrosa triumphed at an eventful MotoGP race today, to score victory around the challenging Motegi circuit.

During a race that saw many riders incur a ride through penalty or run off the track, Pedrosa prevailed to score whilst others faltered.

Pole sitter Casey Stoner exchanged pole position fro the lead at the start of the race, however the Repsol Honda rider ran off the track on lap five and dropped down the order. Eager to take advantage of others misfortune, Pedrosa found himself heading the field as the chequered flag fell to secure his third victory of the 2011 season.

Behind, Jorge Lorenzo managed to score a second place finish, however as Stoner clawed his way back to a third place finish, Lornezo was unable to capitalise on his championship campaign.

Despite incurring a ride through penalty for a jump start, Marco Simoncelli still managed to finish in fourth place, inches ahead of the third Repsol Honda machine of Andrea Dovizioso. Ben Spies led home a trio of American riders in sixth place, with Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards following suit behind.

Hiroshi Aoyama and Randy De Puniet were two of the few riders who managed a flawless race, whcih enabled the pair to finish in ninth and tenth places, respectively. Cal Crutchlow was able to wrestle his way back to an eleventh place finish by the time he hit the chequered flag, despite a ride through penalty earlier on, with Kousuke Akiyoshi and Shinichi Ito the only remaining finishers.

Five riders in total were forced into retirement, including Valentino Rossi who suffered a lap one crash from his Ducati machine.

Stoner now holds a 40 point advantage in the championship standings over Lorenzo. With the next round at Phillip Island in just two weeks time (16th October), Stoner will be keen to extend his championship advantage in front of his home crowd.
