Pedrosa to hear Laguna fate
Dani Pedrosa will find out on Wednesday whether he is fit to ride in the US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca this Sunday.
The Honda rider sustained a finger fracture after following a 160mph crash at the Sachsenring on Sunday, ending his race after just four laps and potentially ruling him out of the race at Laguna Seca this weekend.
A statement from the Repsol Honda team released on Sunday said that Pedrosa had definitely fractured the top bone in the little finger on his left hand and that it was possible that his ankle injury was also fractured and secondary examinations appeared to confirm those beliefs.
Pedrosa saw specialist Dr Xavier Mir in Barcelona late on Sunday and will be assessed before a final decision is made on Wednesday as to his participation this weekend.
“Dani Pedrosa presents a general inflammation of the left hand with hematomas in the sheathes of both extending tendons,” said Mir, who has also worked with Jorge Lorenzo this season. “The pilot shows a displaced fracture of the distal phalanx of the left pointing finger, which has been reduced.
“Further on, the patient presents a sprain of the proximal interphalaxical joint of the middle finger of the left hand which has been totally immobilised. Finally, he has undergone a fixation of a fracture of the big bone of the left wrist by an arthroscopic technique.
“It is confirmed that the patient has suffered a lateral external sprain of the right ankle.”
