Police To Target Bikes In April
Speeding bikers will face another threat to their wallets, licences and motorcycle insurance premiums in April, with reports claiming that they will be the target of the latest government road safety campaign.
Reports claim that a Department for Transport “enforcement calendar” circulated to every police force in the UK highlights motorcyclists as the target for the latest ‘Think!’ road safety campaign.
The campaign, which would similar to other timed campaigns such as December’s clampdown on drink-driving, could see police forces dedicate additional resources into combating road traffic offences committed by motorcyclists.
A typical speeding offence carries a fixed penalty of £60 and three penalty points, which could result in increased motorcycle insurance premiums.
Inspector Shaun Cronin of Dorset Police’s traffic unit told MCN: “The DfT put out an enforcement calendar. It guides police forces through the Think campaign to look at specific areas for enforcement so that we’re all joined up on the same hymn sheet. April is the month for motorcycles.”
A DfT spokeswoman said: “We have discussions with the Association of Chief Police Officers about what we are going to be highlighting in our Think campaign so that they can see whether they might want to join up with that and do some of their own activity around the same time.”
