Race Retro 2010
One of the most varied motorsport shows of the year, Race Retro, which is held at Stoneleigh Park on March 12th-14th this year, promises historic classic bikes on sale, sixty years of Norton and a chance to meet road racing legends.
Norton is one of the most famous names in British motorcycling and bikes like the Commando and Dominator are still highly collectable today. The Norton name has been revived recently but those with an interest in the marque’s racing heritage can chat with legendary racer and engineer Peter Williams at Race Retro, plus meet Phil Read, Trevor Nation who campaigned hard on the rotary 588 in the 80s and 90s, and John Cooper and Steve Plater.
The Ace Cafe will be hosting a cafe racer competition at the Race Retro event. The best Tritons, Norvins, Norbsas, plus Italian and Japanese specials will be on display and judging takes place over the weekend, with awards made by Steve Parrish on Sunday.
Those who fancy investing in classic bikes, rather than gambling on whether a pension might fund your old age, might want to browse the two wheeled display in the H&H Auction, which takes place on site. There is a collection of some 48 machines from Valencia in Spain, covering pioneer motorcycles to great roadburners of the 60s. Some seven trophies won by the late Mike Hailwood will also be sold.
Car fans can join a celebration of Alfa Romeo with the owners club holding a massive get together, 30 years of the Audi Quattro and the Live Rally stage, with an Aston Martin V8 rally car in action, alongside Escorts, Minis, Opel Mantas etc.
The show opens Friday-Sunday 9.30am to 5.30pm and adult admission is £20 on Friday, then £15 on Saturday and Sunday. Stoneleigh Park is located near Leamington Spa.
