Redding amazed with podium finish
Briton Scott Redding welcomed a strong podium finish at his home race last weekend, at the British Grand Prix – the last race of this nature at Donington Park for the foreseeable future.
The Gloucestershire-based Blusens Aprilia rider was amazed at his result, yet also impressed with the historical aspect of his feat. “As it was the last ever visit to Donington it was great to have a British rider on the podium and I know it has made a lot of people happy. It is very good for me personally too because I’ve been struggling a lot this season and it takes some pressure off me.” Said the 16 year-old.
Redding established himself in the prestigious end of the sport last year, when he rode to victory, earning himself a well deserved 125cc win at the same event. Despite being unable to repeat his achievement this time around, Redding overcame a difficult rain soaked race to ride to a respectable third place finish.
Commenting on his successful weekend, the youngster said: “It feels great because at the beginning of the weekend we struggled a little bit, but the team worked really well. We managed to get a good set-up in the dry and the rain, although I never expected to get a podium again because there was so much pressure at the beginning of the weekend. I was trying my hardest but the times were not coming.
“After the race got red flagged because of the rain the team said to me it’s now or never, it’s five laps, I’m nowhere in the championship so I can just go for podiums and see what happens.” He added.
