Revamped Kymco KR125
Kymco are finding sales of their bikes and scooters increasing across the UK and the revamped KR125 N model for 2010 looks like another winner, reports Alastair Walker.
The KR125N costs £2699 on the road, is learner legal too, making it ideal transport for busy commuters or novice riders. The Taiwanese Kymco brand was originally set up by Honda in the 60s and has a proper UK importer, established for 11 years. Unlike an internet-sold 125 bike, there is good parts and warranty back-up.
So what’s new on the KR125 Kymco for this year? The four stroke engine has new valve gear and balancing shafts for smoother running. It still makes just under 13bhp, but that’s the UK limit on 125cc learner class machines. Kymco, like all bike makers, don’t give fuel consumption figures, but insidebikes estimates around 80mpg in busy traffic.
The alloy frame is lighter for this year, just 9Kgs in fact, plus there’s a funky new instrument assembly and the fuel tank is bigger at 13.5 litres. There’s a new headlight design, which looks remarkably similar to an MV Agusta item. Kymco have done a great job in styling this modern urban motorbike, from its wavy disc brakes to its stepped dual seat. It has practical touches too, like a steering lock and a decent underseat storage area, big enough for a lightweight waterproof suit.
