Ride to Work on free commuter cover
Specialist bike insurer Carole Nash is backing international Ride To Work Day by providing free insurance to ensure all its policyholders are covered for commuting on the big day (Monday June 20th).
The company’s move came after it found that 47 percent of its biking customers were not covered to ride to and from work.
“On interrogating our customer database we found that nearly half of Carole Nash policyholders had chosen purely social, domestic and pleasure cover which excludes commuting,” commented the company’s commercial director, Simon Jackson. “Clearly this meant that they could not support Ride To Work Day, an initiative we wholeheartedly back. As a result we negotiated with each and every one of our underwriters so that we could provide free, one-off commuting cover across the board. With this obstacle removed our message for next Monday is quite simple – on your bike!”
Policyholders need not contact Carole Nash to advise them they plan to take part in Ride To Work Day as cover will automatically be added to their policy.
Ride To Work Day is being marked by a range of events nationwide which aim to highlight how much “life would be better if more people rode motorcycles and scooters every day, with time savings, less congestion and reduced travel costs.” Celebrity participants will include TV presenter and Strictly Come Dancing contestant, Gethin Jones.
In a separate move Carole Nash has teamed up with the Motorcycle Industry Association’s Get On campaign to encourage more of its own staff to take to two wheels. Get On, which provides free test rides to the public, is sending two of its expert instructors to the company’s Altrincham headquarters for Ride To Work Day. Taster sessions will be offered to up to 44 staff on the company’s car park which is being converted into a secure training area for the day.
Other pro-biking moves include covering the cost of tuition and course fees for employees who want to follow the Compulsory Basic Test or take the full motorcycle test. Over 120 workers have taken up the offer whilst others, including Mr. Jackson, had already gained their bike certificate before joining Carole Nash.
