Rossi Eyes a Win and Hopes for Stoner’s Speedy Recovery
Valentino Rossi has declared himself ready for the MotoGP World Championship round at Brno on Sunday.
Rossi affirmed that he is ‘rested and relaxed’ after the summer and has his eyes on the prize for his sixth MotoGP championship this season. Brno surely holds a special place in the heart of the talented rider as he secured his first ever Grand Prix win thirteen years ago at the Czech Republic circuit.
Comfortably in pole position for this weekend’s round, Rossi is 25 points ahead of Fiat Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and is fully prepared for the race ahead as he said:
The summer ‘holiday’ wasn’t as long as usual but anyway I’ve had the chance to recharge the batteries in the break and I’m feeling rested and relaxed.
“Last time out at Donington wasn’t ideal but in the end it was a positive day for us and we now have a one-race buffer at the top of the championship.
“Despite this breathing space we can’t afford to relax for a minute because our rivals are very strong and I expect everyone to be at their best in Brno. It’s a great track for me and I took my first ever win there; I’m hoping for another good result this time.”
In addition to his confidence about the race ahead, Rossi also expressed hope for a speedy recovery for rival Casey Stoner. Stoner, who has been sidelined for at least three upcoming races as a result of illness has been one of Rossi’s biggest competitors on the track, as Rossi called him ‘one of the greatest riders and one of the guys that fights for the championship’ and hoped for his speedy recovery: ‘it is great to have Casey on the track and being able to fight with him, so I hope he can come back soon. With Stoner expected to be sidelined until early October, the Ducati team will be without one of their key riders for vital upcoming races in Brno, Indianapolis and Misano.
