Rossi falls during GP12 testing
Valentino Rossi took a tumble yesterday while continue his initial testing of Ducati’s 1000cc bike for 2012, but luckily came away unscathed.
Ross took to the track for his sixth trial of the 1000cc GP12 bike, taking over from test rider Franco Battaini. Ducati are hoping that the new, reportedly aluminium, frame will help turn around Rossi’s lacklustre performance this season. Rossi did fall during the test, but this didn’t affect the team’s work and he was unhurt, managing to complete more than 80 laps.
The new frame has been built by UK based company FTR and is undergoing extensive testing this week at Mugello. The re-design comes after serious complaints from team riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden, who have heavily criticised the chronic understeer and lack of front end feel with the current carbon-fibre bike.
Between them, the Ducati team have only managed to secure one podium finish this season, and former world champion Rossi has given up on chasing the championship dream this season.
Rossi had this to say about the initial testing: “Developing a bike requires a lot of focus and effort, but it’s also very exciting and fulfilling to be part of a group of people pushing as hard as it can in the same direction. Today we confirmed various aspects of the GP12′s electronics and chassis, collecting a lot of useful information for Filippo and the guys in the factory. I think that the work is well underway as we prepare for our next steps.”
