Rossi says Aragon win is “impossible”

Last year the Motorland Aragon race saw Casey Stoner make a massive breakthrough, and he went on to win 3 out of the last 6 races. But Valentino Rossi isn’t confident that he can emulate Stoner’s success, saying “I don’t think it is possible”.

Rossi thinks it’s impossible to continue Stoner’s success and has only picked up one podium finish this GP season, in his debut outing with the Ducati team. The 32-year-old rider has spoken out, saying that he doesn’t think his fortunes will be changing in the immediate future.

After experiencing front-end problems so far this season, the Italian rider is set to try out an aluminium frame this week in Mugello, but it’s unlikely it will provide a huge change in time for the Aragon race.

Rossi said: “I don’t think it is possible. Stoner arrived in Aragon and changed very much the way of his season. A lot of people say to me this bike won three of the last six races but for me I say this bike won three of the last 18 races of last year.

“From that moment Stoner modified the setting and he rode like a devil and he made great results with nothing to lose and he made all or nothing. That is not a criticism of Casey because at this moment I am not able to do like him. In Aragon hopefully we can stay closer. Last year Nicky (Hayden) was very fast but it will be difficult.”

However, Ducati boss Filippo Preziosi has spoken out, saying that Rossi is like a lion ,trapped in a cage and, once the problems with their Desmosedici machine are resolved, he warned that Rossi will once again be a force to be reckoned with.

Preziosi said: “The crucial point is to interpret the information that comes from our riders in the right way, design the right part and test properly the parts and then the last thing is to have the right rider and we have it. They know how dangerous he is because the lion is in the cage. When we open the cage it will be very dangerous.”
