Rossi Set To Pen New Yamaha Deal
Valentino Rossi looks to have ended speculation on his future after admitting that it is “very likely” that he will sign a new contract with Yamaha.
The Italian, who had been extremely critical of Yamaha last season after a series of technical problems and even hinted at quitting the team, has expressed his delight at the performance of the 2008 bike and now appears set to pen a new two-year deal.
“We are talking with Yamaha,” Rossi told Spanish television channel TVE after winning at Le Mans on Sunday. “I had asked them for a bike to win and they’ve satisfied my request, so there’s no reason for me to leave.
“We still need to find the agreement, but I think it’s very likely that I will carry on with Yamaha for two more years.”
Rossi has been delighted by the pace of his Yamaha, demonstrated perfectly this weekend as Yamaha filled all three podium places at Le Mans this weekend and the current MotoGP championship leader believes that the 2008 M1 is the best machine produced by the Japanese manufacturer.
“This year’s M1 is the best bike Yamaha has ever produced,” he said. “The 2005 bike was excellent, but it doesn’t compare with this one. I’m happy they have worked so well and they’ve managed to improve so much in so little time.
“I’m still hungry for victories and I think I will keep on racing for a few years more, at least while I manage to stay at the front.”
