Rossi stalker arrested
A 42 year old man was identified and charged by the Police in Pesaro, Italy yesterday, for making death threats against Valentino Rossi and threatening to kill the Italian champion during the upcoming Mugello GP, according to press wire reports.
The man who lives in Casale Monferrato is believed to have been using a false name, claimed to be a Ducati fan and was completely obsessed by his hatred of Rossi, making numerous threatening phone calls that involved not only Rossi, but also targeting Rossi’s family and close friends phones. The man also announced his intention to carry out the death threat by calling the television media and newspapers. One email claimed that he would `put a bullet in Rossi’s head at Mugello.’
The investigation was kept confidential until Thursday morning, when the suspect’s house was searched and investigators found evidence such as a newspaper clipping, showing Valentino Rossi with the words `The man I hate’ scrawled across the photo. Faced with this, the man admitted his offence and will now be prosecuted.
The Fiat Yamaha and Repsol Honda MotoGP teams are no strangers to death threats. Last year, on the eve of Rossi and Lorenzo’s famous battle at the Catalunya GP, Lorenzo’s former manager made threats against the Spanish rider, claiming he was owed money. Back in 2002 Rossi was threatened by an eco-terrorist organisation who wanted him to sever his links with the Repsol Honda team.
