Safety warning issued ahead of Bash

Road safety campaigners in Warwickshire have launched a campaign to reduce the number of motorcyclist deaths in the county ahead of this weekend’s Bulldog Bash.

The Bulldog Bash bike and music festival, which opens on Friday at the Shakespeare Country Raceway near Stratford upon Avon, features performances on a quarter-mile drag racing strip and rock and metal acts, with this year’s festival being headlined by The Damned and Status Quo.

And Warwickshire Police has issued a safety warning to bikers in the region and those attending the festival, after five motorcycle deaths so far this year compared to two during 2010.

Phil Moore, road safety officer with Warwickshire Police, told the BBC: “We’ve put some posters out to bring to the bikers’ attention that there are other road users and it’s just trying to get each group to each be aware of each other and work together to look after each other on the routes.

“Hopefully, if we do make people a little bit more alert to that problem, we’ll stop other collisions.”
