Seth jumps XR1200 175 feet
American freestyle motocross legend, Seth Enslow, made history recently by jumping an XR1200 Harley-Davidson 175 feet. Seth landed the jump on a Harley-Davidson XR1200 at Barangaroo, near Sydney, doing it again a few minutes afterwards for the benefit of the media photographers who missed the first jump. The death-defying stunt recreated an unforgettable Harley-Davidson motorcycle benchmark set by the infamous Evel Knievel in 1975 and broke a world record, most recently set by Bubba Blackwell in Las Vegas, 1999.
Still high from the jump, Seth said: “This is awesome, I’m stoked!” Before letting out an almighty ‘woooo!’ Harley-Davidson spokesperson, Adrian O’Donoughue, added: “We’ve worked hard at creating history and we’re all glad he landed it safely. The wheels are already in motion for what we do next!”
The recent introduction of the XR1200 to the Harley-Davidson family, a bike reminiscent of the XR750 made famous by Evel Knievel, has prompted a new generation of rebels eager to honour Knievel’s legendary status as a motorcycle stunt rider. The world record attempt was broadcast live on www.harleyworldrecordjump.com.
ACE CAFE SHOW SUCCESS
Meanwhile, closer to home, two Harleys have taken awards in the Ace Cafe Ally Pally Show. Shaw Harley-Davidson scooped the prestigious first prize in the Modified Harley-Davidson class. Its entry ‘Strike True II’, will now go forward to compete in the World Championship of Custom Bike Building in Sturgis later this year. In addition, the Sussex-based dealership walked away with second and fourth places in the Modified Harley-Davidson class for its ‘Johnny Cash Get Rhythm’ and ‘Salt Flat’ entries.
Meanwhile, Warr’s Harley-Davidson won third prize in the Modified Harley-Davidson category for its entry ‘Twenty Four’, which is a modified version of the 2010 FLSTB Cross Bones motorcycle.
“Winning at the Ace Café London Motorcycle and Custom Show is a huge achievement for these two Harley-Davidson dealerships,” says Stuart Farrell, Harley-Davidson Managing Director for the UK and Ireland. “There were some stunning entries across the category from individuals, independent custom shows and authorised dealers. Shaw Harley-Davidson and Warr’s Harley-Davidson did exceptionally well to come away with so many awards, judged by their peers in the competition.
For a closer look at the award-winning custom motorcycles, visit Shaw Harley-Davidson, Holmes Hill, Lewes, East Sussex BN8 6JA or Warr’s Harley-Davidson, 611 King’s Road, London SW6 3EL. Alternatively, visit www.shawharley-davidson.co.uk or www.warrs.com.
