Smith takes on F1 star

British 125cc championship hopeful will be going head to head with Formula One championship leader Jenson Button this weekend in a triathlon around London to raise money for Riders for Health.

Smith and Button will, along with around 13,000 other competitors, take part in the Mazda London Triathlon this Sunday (Aug 2) at the ExCeL Centre with the MotoGP 125 rider raising money for the Riders for Health charity, which provides health care workers in rural Africa with reliable motorcycles and four-wheeled vehicles that allow them to provide health care can reach even the most isolated communities.

The 18-year-old threw the challenge down to the BrawnGP driver when the pair met at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix last month and the pair will fight it out in the battle between two and four wheels.

Smith was also part of the fundraising activities on Thursday at Donington Park where, in the build-up to the British Grand Prix, the racing leathers that he wore on Sunday fetched £1,600 at a charity auction which raised a total of £77,000 for Riders for Health in less than four hours.

Those funds went to the total Day of Champions charity pool which, following a series of exhibitions, live music, side-car rides and stunt shows, raised an incredible £177,000 for the cause.
