Staff Get on For Ride to Work Day

More than 40 staff at leading bike insurance firm Carole Nash ‘got on their bike’ in support of National Ride to Work Day yesterday.

To mark international Ride To Work Day motorcycle insurance specialist Carole Nash arranged free bike training sessions for workers at its Manchester Road headquarters. Qualified instructors from the RJH Motorbike Training School were commissioned by the motorcycle industry’s Get On campaign to teach biking basics and give them firsthand experience of riding. The company converted its car park into a secure training area for the day so it could offer training sessions for nearly 40 staff.

It’s the latest move by the company to encourage its staff to take up biking so they can enjoy greater affinity with customers. Carole Nash already provides free training and covers test fees for any member of staff who wants to complete biking’s Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course or take the full motorcycle test. Over 120 workers have done just that with others, like commercial director Simon Jackson, having already gained their bike certificate before joining the company.

One staff member who took part has already decided to take her bike test after enjoying one of the taster sessions. “It was exhilarating,” reported Nancy Furlonger, PA to the company’s directors. “I’ve always wanted to ride but was nervous. This is easy though. If you listen to the instructor and do as you’re told you can’t go wrong. I’ve signed up to do my CBT there and then!”

That reaction delighted Simon Jackson who said of the initiative: “Carole Nash is an enthusiastic supporter of both the Get On and Ride To Work campaigns. Our social committee came up with the idea of bringing the two together and management were more than happy to help make it happen.

“Ride To Work Day is great way of highlighting biking’s many benefits, such as considerable time and costs savings and the satisfying experience of beating ever increasing congestion. Get On is similarly brilliant as it provides people right across the country with the opportunity to get a taste of what biking is all about, totally free, in a safe environment and supported by expert instructors.”

Carole Nash – which is the UK’s biggest motorcycle insurance specialist with over 300,000 bikes on its books – hopes its initiative will encourage other businesses to promote motorcycling. “There’s a strong business case to be made for biking because it enables staff to be more punctual and productive, getting to work and meetings more swiftly as they don’t need get caught in traffic hold ups. A company motorcycle will also be cheaper to buy, fuel and insure than a car and carry a significantly lower tax burden for both employer and employee.”
